TAKING CARE OF VULNERABLE ROAD USERS

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Street Watch -

WA Police will target dangerous driving with operations at Perth intersections and focusing on motorcyclists throughout the month. Last year, 37 per cent of all people killed in crashes on WA roads were vulnerable road users, including 39 motorcyclists and two motorcycle passengers, 16 pedestrians, eight cyclists, two gopher riders, one scooter rider and one trail bike rider. Police will enforce road rules that relate to behaviours which increase the risks faced by vulnerable road users, because these people do not have the same level of protection as other motorists. We will focus on drivers who place vulnerable road users at risk, and also the behaviour of motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians who disobey road rules. Police will target drunk and drug-affected drivers, dangerous, disqualified and distracted drivers. - Commander Craig Donaldson
