Fund­ing to im­prove health of lake

SOME of the fi­nal restora­tion of Lake Clare­mont by the Friends of Lake Clare­mont will be funded by $17,600 from the Swan River Trust and Al­coa Land­care Pro­gram.

“It will be for plant­ing more wet­land buf­fer cov­er­ing 4000sq m that keep nu­tri­ents com­ing in, pro­vides wildlife pro­tec­tion, and habi­tat for birds, tur­tles and rep­tiles,” spokes­woman Heidi Hardisty said.

Restora­tion work at the site, in­clud­ing the sea­sonal lake that was an Abo­rig­i­nal camp­ing area, started about 20 years ago.

Ms Hardisty said about 85 per cent of the work was com­plete and would be fin­ished in 2016-17 if the vol­un­teer group was suc­cess­ful in get­ting an­other $25,000 WA Nat­u­ral re­sources Man­age­ment grant later this year.
