New grevillea honours fallen

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

A HYBRID grevillea has been developed at the request of the Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL) to honour Australia’s fallen.

Veterans Minister Joe Francis launched the RSL Spirit of Anzac Grevillea yesterday and planted a hybrid at the State War Memorial in Kings Park.

“The grevillea is a fitting symbol to honour the spirit of the Anzacs and more than 100,000 Australians who lost their lives in conflicts overseas,” Mr Francis said.

Mr Francis said the grevillea was selected for its lush red flowers, trans-Australia heritage and the tough geographical conditions where it grows.

The plant will be available through the Friends of Kings Park native plant sales and retail outlets across Australia, with proceeds going to an Anzac Centenary fund managed by the WA RSL.
