Scooter lock offer taken up
MOSMAN Park motorscooter rider Ian Briggs (61) has a secure ride after Cottesloe police supplied a lock for his two wheels last week.
“I’ve had three scooters and all three at some point have been stolen,” Mr Briggs said.
His scooters were taken while being stored at friends’ houses while he was overseas in the past five years. Mr Briggs said it was fun and economical to ride a scooter to shops, cafes and the beach but his would now be locked.
Recurring scooter thefts and their use in burglaries prompted police to mail offers of free locks to all 64 registered scooter owners in Mosman Park earlier this month.
Senior Sergeant Neil MortonSmith said 17 locks were given to owners last Monday and several respondents now had a lock for each of their two scooters.
“But anyone who wants one can now come into the station and get it, as long as they have their scooter’s registration papers,” Snr Sgt Morton-Smith said.
