Public, tradies enter fray in burglar chase

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

THE public guided police through streets to the arrest of the alleged burglar of a Northwood Street, West Leederville home about 11.15am on March 12.

“Which was good as people were out in their gardens, and there were even tradies giving directions,” Senior Sergeant Kate Vivian said.

It will be alleged that a back sliding door at the house was smashed, before jewellery, a blue scarf, two handbags, a black holdall bag and an Olympus camera were taken from the house.

Snr Sgt Vivian said a neighbour heard the home’s alarm being activated and saw a man leave the property, before the public followed the man along nearby Ruislip Street giving directions to officers.

The directions led police to a nearby aged care centre where staff said there was a man in a back courtyard.

A Ballajura man (44) allegedly had an Olympus camera in his tracksuit pants when he was arrested in the courtyard, before he was charged with burglary and bailed to reappear at Perth Magistrates Court on March 26.
