DEMOLITION of Ace Cinemas is one step closer now its owners have applied to the City of Subiaco for a building permit. “The hotel site has got its building licence started, and there are now forward works on that project,” Mayor Heather Henderson said. “Having this hotel built with short-stay accommodation is a really critical thing for us to fulfill our vision for Subiaco.” The $95 million hotel, food court and bou- tique cinema on 500 Hay Street was approved by the Metro West Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP) in September 2013. At the time, a Dradgin spokesman said the property developer planned to start demolition in July 2014 for a two-year construction period. But the project was delayed by a State Administrative Tribunal appeal and JDAP-approved modifications to the building design.
