Council to allow club 11 games at park

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Westernopinion - By ROSANNA CANDLER

SUBIACO Amateur Football Club (AFC) will hold 11 National Premier League (NPL) games at Rosalie Park this year, Subiaco Council decided last month.

Subiaco resident Helen Leeder said the council should have refused the motion, as there should be no fencing on Rosalie Park “be it permanent, temporary or a boundary adjustment”.

“It is not hard to believe that this entire consultation was done to achieve a result entirely for one sporting group,” Ms Leeder said.

Subiaco AFC secretary Brad Forbes said their request for temporary barriers and seating was reasonable.

“We have many volunteers to help us install and remove the fencing on the day of the match,” he said.

Cr Stephanie Stroud said the City of Subiaco should not pass up the opportunity for the games to bring more importance and vibrancy to the City.

“At a time where we are lamenting the loss of the AFL (at Subiaco Oval), here we have the NPL (wanting) to come to Subiaco,” she said.
