Love walks in, then takes a detour

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Film -

ANYONE who likes their romance stories with an edge should enjoy 3Hearts.

While most films in the genre set up its protagonists with an early meet-cute moment to make us smile, then offer up a slight drama to threaten the budding relationship, only to wrap it up quite nicely in the end, 3Hearts makes an effort to be unpredictable.

The characters are damaged and the outcome not the most ideal.

Tax inspector Marc Beaulieu (Benoît Poelvoorde) meets troubled Sylvie Berg- er (Charlotte Gainsbourg) one night and there is an instant attraction.

The two walk and chat – Before Sunset style – and agree to meet again.

A work-related issue prevents Marc from making it and the two never see each other.

However, Marc does later meet, fall in love with and marry Sophie Berger (Chiara Mastroianni).

The twist is that Sophie and Sylvie are sisters.
