More Easter cri­sis calls

SU­BI­ACO-BASED Sa­mar­i­tans will have ex­tra peo­ple an­swer­ing phones in its call cen­tre over Easter to cope with an ex­pected in­crease in calls.

Direc­tor Kevin Crom­bie said num­bers tended to spike dur­ing tra­di­tional hol­i­day sea­sons such as Easter be­cause vul­ner­a­ble peo­ple of­ten felt more iso­lated.

“It is at such times that many peo­ple re­flect on their dis­ap­point­ments and such neg­a­tiv­ity – es­pe­cially if in­di­vid­u­als are iso­lated – sim­ply makes the per­son ex­tremely vul­ner­a­ble, and they of­ten call us for sup­port,” Mr Crom­bie said.
