REOPENING A REMINDER OF HUMANITY
I RECENTLY had the privilege of attending the Lindt Cafe reopening in Martin Place, Sydney. As I wandered through the bustling store, packed by media and the public, I thought of just how many people – workers, customers, emergency services and everyone watching events unfold on TV – were affected by that one horrific act. The actions of an individual changed the direction of many lives in an instant. At the re-opened cafe, I saw people buy gifts for family and friends in support of the two people who lost their lives and of those scarred forever by the incident. We can’t always change the circumstances we face, but we can decide how we respond and how we treat others in the process.
