Western Suburbs Weekly - - City of Perth News -

The Water Corporation and City of Perth are working together to deliver upgrades along Barrack Street from Monday, 13 April 2015. The Barrack Street projects are taking place between St Georges Terrace and Wellington Street. The Water Corporation is upgrading a water main, and City of Perth is converting Barrack Street to two-way traffic. These projects are being delivered in parallel to minimise community disruption over the long term. For the duration of both projects, sections of Barrack Street will be reduced to one lane of northbound traffic. While these projects may cause inconvenience in the short term, they are being undertaken now to ensure Perth, its road network and water system are ready to facilitate the future needs of our growing city. City of Perth CEO Gary Stevenson said the conversion of Barrack Street will revive the historically important precinct and ready the CBD road network to facilitate the Elizabeth Quay development. Pedestrian access to businesses in the area will be maintained at all times during business hours for the duration of the upgrades.
