Focus on homeless

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Western Opinion - By EMILY BAKER

MELISSA North and her young family will go ‘ Homeless For a Night’ to raise funds for those doing it tough.

The Claremont family will take part in the Manna Inc-hosted event, with donations going towards the charity’s Hot & Healthy meals program.

Mrs North said the one night of “being homeless” would hopefully raise a target of $250,000 to help fund 50,000 meals.

“This event really hit home to me as a parent,” Mrs North said.

“I’m well aware my children are very fortunate that I am able to support them with a warm bed, a secure home and good nutrition, something I feel is very much taken for granted because it’s our day-to-day way of life.

Sadly, that's not the case for everyone.

“Although sleeping out for one night isn’t going to be as tough for my family as it is for those who are homeless, I feel it will be a great way to remind my children how fortunate they are.”

Homeless for a Night will be held on May 2 at Ascot Race Course.

Registrations for the fundraising event close on April 30.

Mrs North encouraged other families to get involved.

“Raising money for this cause is our focus as a family for the next six weeks before the event, so we can give as much as possible to a very good cause".
