Western Suburbs Weekly - - Health -

CANCER Council WA announced a $3.8 million injection into cancer research. The announcement of the biggest amount the Cancer Council has ever provided in annual research grants was made last month.

Chief executive Susan Rooney said the research program supported the best and brightest cancer researchers at all stages of their career.

“Cancer Council WA seeks out the best cancer research within leading universities and institutions to ensure that the funds will have the highest possi- ble impact in our collective fight against cancer,” Ms Rooney said.

“We gratefully acknowledge the generosity of the West Australian community, which has enabled us to make this substantial investment into research funding and help to ensure world-class research is taking place here.”

Ms Rooney said the funding meant many of the researchers could spend less time chasing grants to fund their work and more time doing vital research.
