Steel Blue turns pink and purple

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Business - By SHANNAN OSRIN

STEEL Blue will launch its new pink and purple boots on Mother’s Day to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care WA (BCCWA) education initiatives.

Ten dollars from the sale of the new Southern Cross ladies boots will go towards BCCWA’s education and support programs.

BCCWA chief executive Zoe McAlpine said the boots would “look great on both men and women”.

“The significance of the purple for BCCWA defines us as a WA-based charity providing support services for people with breast cancer so anything to do with emotional, practical and financial support,” Ms McAlpine said.

“Breast awareness as a whole is what will drive early detection for the best possible treatment outcomes in the future, and the more women and men that we can make breast aware from early detection will save lives.

“The partnership is important so we can run the Click, which is an online breast cancer forum where people who either have breast cancer or know someone who has breast cancer can go for information and those are things that we couldn’t provide without Steel Blue.”

Steel Blue general manager Ross Fitzgerald said the company had been committed to supporting BCCWA since 2007.

“We are getting massive support from around the country from our distributors and we’ve had orders for nearly 3500 pairs and that’s before we have done any advertising,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

“I’m very hopeful that this isn’t just a stock thing and that it gets sold repeatedly and something that will last for a long time.”

Steel Blue Ambassador Dennis Lillee said he was very happy to be involved in the partnership.

“They (BCCWA) need a lot of money for research for care and this is going to contribute towards that,” he said. “I’ll wear the pink, I’ll wear any colour, I have no problem with that and as soon as I get a pair of the pink boots, they’ll be on as well.

“I actually enjoy it and it’s good to have a couple colourful pair of boots rather than the boring black.”
