Hat-trick breaks losing streak
A HAT-TRICK by winger Ronan Colleran helped Associates break their Premier Grade four-game losing streak, defeating Cottesloe 37-23 at Allen Park.
Both teams lead at different times, but the home side broke away midway through the second half.
Associates and Western Force flyhalf Zack Holmes opened the scoring with an early penalty goal before Cottesloe scrum-half Charl Nieuwenhuis helped set up flanker Angus Duckett for the first try and a 7-3 lead.
Nieuwenhuis orchestrated the second a short time later when he chipped over two defenders to give flanker Adrian Hall an easy run to the try line, with the Gulls halfback converting for an early 14-3 lead after 10 minutes.
Soaks responded with a slick play off the back of this scrum to narrow the gap to six points.
Nieuwenhuis added a penalty goal before a try to Associates scrumhalf Justin Turner and No.8 Al Rovira gave Associates a 22-17 half-time lead.
Nieuwenhuis opened the second half scoring with two early penalty goals before Ronan Colleran crossed for his second of the day. Holmes converted the kick from a sharp angle to give Soaks a 29-23 lead at the 55th minute.
Colleran added his third 10 minutes later with Holmes adding a final penalty goal to extend the final result to 37-23.
Fever captain Ashleigh Brazill starred in centre, but the NSW Swifts proved too strong.
