Wor­thing­ton win­ner for char­ity work

PHI­LAN­THROPIST Ros Wor­thing­ton has been recog­nised for her tire­less work with char­i­ties, tak­ing out the Com­mu­nity Award in the West Aus­tralian of the Year Awards last month.

The event, which was part of WA Day cel­e­bra­tions, was held at the Perth Con­ven­tion and Ex­hi­bi­tion Cen­tre and recog­nised the achieve­ments of West Aus­tralians from a broad cross-sec­tion of the com­mu­nity.

Ms Wor­thing­ton, who has worked with char­i­ties for 36 years, was cel­e­brat­ing her own fundrais­ing event Buy­ing Time for Breast Can­cer Care WA (BCCWA) when she was whisked away to col­lect the award.

The BCCWA founder said she was over­whelmed to re­ceive the award and thanked her fam­ily, friends and sup­port­ers.

Other in­di­vid­ual win­ners in­cluded Dr Robert Isaacs, who won the Abo­rig­i­nal Award, Henry Bos­ton (Arts and Cul­ture Award), Peter Pren­diville (Busi­ness Award), Frank Cooper (Pro­fes­sions Award), An­drew Vla­hov (Sport Award) and Rhys Wil­liams (Youth Award).

The Buy­ing Time cam­paign raised $100,000 and in­cluded an on­line auc­tion of an amethyst pen­dant cre­ated by Leed­erville jeweller Rohan Milne, with the help of Com­mu­nity News­pa­per Group edi­tor Denise S. Cahill.
