Worthington winner for charity work
PHILANTHROPIST Ros Worthington has been recognised for her tireless work with charities, taking out the Community Award in the West Australian of the Year Awards last month.
The event, which was part of WA Day celebrations, was held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and recognised the achievements of West Australians from a broad cross-section of the community.
Ms Worthington, who has worked with charities for 36 years, was celebrating her own fundraising event Buying Time for Breast Cancer Care WA (BCCWA) when she was whisked away to collect the award.
The BCCWA founder said she was overwhelmed to receive the award and thanked her family, friends and supporters.
Other individual winners included Dr Robert Isaacs, who won the Aboriginal Award, Henry Boston (Arts and Culture Award), Peter Prendiville (Business Award), Frank Cooper (Professions Award), Andrew Vlahov (Sport Award) and Rhys Williams (Youth Award).
The Buying Time campaign raised $100,000 and included an online auction of an amethyst pendant created by Leederville jeweller Rohan Milne, with the help of Community Newspaper Group editor Denise S. Cahill.
