Vet nurse wants to Tapp into supplies

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

SUBIACO veterinary nurse Rebecca Tapp is calling for donations of surgical instruments and medication to help treat animals in Cambodia.

Ms Tapp will travel to Siem Reap in Cambodia on June 15 to volunteer as a vet nurse and needs donations of surgical instruments, suture materials, endotracheal tubes, fluids, anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, oxygen masks and IV catheters before she leaves.

“Vet services are limited there and supplies are low, so I’m trying to secure some donations of medical equipment and medications to take with me for the charities before I go,” she said.

“Sarcoptic mange and parasites are the most common problems, so there is a huge demand for parasiticides, like Revolution, and medicated shampoos such as Malaseb.

“If anyone is able to donate an old spare Woods lamps to help detect fungus, bacterial infections and parasites, that would be fantastic.”

Ms Tapp, who has previously volunteered in Bali and the Cook Islands, will be working with Siem Reap Veterinary Services, which is run by an Australian vet nurse living in Cambodia.

Ms Tapp said she would mainly be treating dogs and cats that would otherwise not receive any vet care.

“I’m volunteering my time; the community can do their bit by volunteering their old, expired, unwanted, excess items,” she said.

“Second-hand instruments, even recently expired medications and suture material, will be gratefully accepted from doctors, vets, hospitals, chemists or universities.

“The charities rely on help from the community to be able to help the animals, so please help.” For more information about donating, contact becdonations@outlook.com.
