AN apologetic knife-wielding thief stole a camera and mobile telephones from a couple sitting on a beachside bench near the Warton Street-Marine Parade intersection about 10pm on May 3. Senior Sergeant Neil Morton-Smith said a man walked past the couple and returned about 15 minutes later, threatening the couple with the knife. He then took the camera and phones. “He said ‘Sorry mate, I just need the cash’,” Snr Sgt Morton-Smith said. The man was described as 1.7m tall, slim and wearing a dark, baseball-style cap, a long-sleeved shirt and lighter-coloured trousers.
