$31m for upgrade
A $31 million mental health unit was unveiled at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital last week.
The state-of-the-art inpatient service for people aged 18 to 64 years, replaces the existing mental health ward at SCGH and offers 30 beds, including a six-bed psychiatric intensive care unit allowing 140 admissions a year.
Staffed by specialist multi-disciplinary teams, the unit aims to provide a greater range of treatment options for adult mental health patients needing acute care, through a strong academic and research-based focus.
The upgrade is part of $30 million in capital funding for 2015-16 to be invested by the State Government in mental health services.
