MT Claremont resident Cheryl Botha has launched her new online shoe shop Ankalia after studying leatherwork in Milan under a renowned leather artisan.

Ms Botha said she returned eager to bring her high-end handcrafted leather sandals product to the Australian market.

“All the leather is made in Italy and I assemble and embellish the shoes in my Mt Claremont home studio using the same traditional methods that I learnt from my mentor in Italy,” she said.

Ms Botha embellishes the sandals with Swarovski crystals.

Along with leatherwork, she also studied fashion and luxury goods management in Milan, and said she was excited about the benefits of an online business.

“I can have the flexibility to sell to customers all over the world; I’ve already had some interest from customers in the US,” Ms Botha said.

She said craftsmanship and quality were the most important parts of her trade.

“Each pair takes several hours to make; I don’t think there’s anything like Ankalia on the Australian market,” Ms Botha said.
