Focus off footy for oval history quest

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Nearyou -

SUBIACO Oval historians are appealing for memorabilia, photographs and information from past sporting and entertainment events not related to Australian Rules Football. The City of Subiaco, WA Football Commission (WAFC) and Prue Griffin from Hocking Heritage Studio have been compiling historic content to tell the story of Subiaco Oval. Although the oval was “intrinsically tied” to AFL, Ms Griffin said the historic venue also hosted rugby, cricket, lacrosse, athletics and some of Perth’s biggest music concerts. “The experience of being at Subiaco Oval has dramatically changed over the years since its inception, and we would like to see or hear of the ways in which it has differed,” she said. Call Subiaco Museum services co-ordinator Erica Boyne on 9237 9227 or email museum@subiaco.wa.gov.au.
