Bak­ery on a roll in Clare­mont

NEW Nor­cia Bak­eries broke the mould by open­ing its first shop­ping cen­tre-based bak­ery at Clare­mont Quar­ter last month.

Owner Con­rad Mias said he was as se­lec­tive about the look and lo­ca­tion of the new shop as he was about the qual­ity of their baked goods.

“We took a look of in­spi­ra­tion from over­seas and in­ter­state in what they were do­ing in the ar­ti­san mar­ket,” Mias said.

“It is ob­vi­ously a fan­tas­tic cen­tral lo­ca­tion, but we wanted to take it fur­ther.

“The shopfront was de­signed by Karen Ford and has a true rustic, homely feel. She did a great job, it came up much bet­ter than we could have imag­ined.”

The bak­ery is the lat­est ad­di­tion to Clare­mont Quar­ter’s fresh food out­let, fol­low­ing Gourmet Republik, Lu­ci­oli and Mama Tran.

Mias said his busi­ness devel­op­ment manager Rizza White was cur­rently trav­el­ling in the south of France and Italy, re­search­ing the lat­est tech­niques and bak­ing ideas.

“We bake fresh ev­ery day; all the sand­wiches, rolls, quiches, pastries and cakes are made in­house at our Mt Hawthorn lo­ca­tion,” he said.

“We make two to three de­liv­er­ies of fresh prod­ucts to Clare­mont ev­ery sin­gle day.”

White said it was very ex­cit­ing for New Nor­cia Bak­eries to take the “next step” in open­ing its third lo­ca­tion.

“It’s the first time we have op­er­ated from a shop­ping cen­tre but we are con­fi­dent that Clare­mont Quar­ter is the per­fect fit,” she said.

“As we grow, it be­comes even more im­por­tant to us that we en­sure we stay true to our ori­gins.”
