McLarnon creating great body of work

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Dance - Tanya MacNaughton

PERTH dancer Jake McLarnon will perform in his first professional hometown show when he returns next week with Australian Dance Theatre for a season of Be Your Self.

McLarnon (21) has been at the South Australian-based contemporary dance company for a year, after graduating from WAAPA in 2013.

“It’s such a great environment to be in and the people are some of the best I’ve ever worked with,” he said.

“The works we get to do make it an exhilarating job. You spend half your life training to be part of a company and to be part of a company like this is amazing.”

ADT were last in Perth in 2013 with a sold-out season of G, and Be Your Self seems a powerful follow-up, exploring what it is to be ‘you’, set to an electronic music score.

Choreographed by artistic director Garry Stewart and ADT dancers, the piece looks at the workings of our body and emotional states.

“The company is known for being very physical and demanding.”

Jake McLarnon.
