Students given lesson by Gulls
COTTESLOE stopped a five-match losing run with a 31-22 win over reigning champions UWA at McGillivray Oval in the Premier Grade last Saturday.
A double from University fullback Christian Joubert was not enough to get the points for the students, with the Gulls sharing their four tries among Charles Abel, Lawrence Urbain, Ross Haylett-Petty and Antini Brown.
The win ensured the fifth-placed Cottesloe maintained touch with the competition’s top four, after the fourth-placed Kalamunda went down to league-leaders Wests Scarborough 37-10 at Bennett Park.
While the Boars (46 points) remain the only undefeated team, Nedlands (44) continue to breath down their necks following their comprehensive 44-14 win over Wanneroo at Landsdale.
The win allowed last year’s minor premiers to extend their winning run to nine matches – their only loss of the season coming in Round One against Wests Scarborough.
Neddies added another bonus point victory to their tally – their sixth for the season – with Joe Ritchie, Danny Hartwell, Richard Naylor, Jesse Toto, Kauri Cudd, Davis Tavita, and Dylan Loversidge touching down for the Foreshore side’s seven tries.
Associates (33 points) also consolidated their place in the top four with a comfortable 47-15 home win against Perth Bayswater at Allen Park.
No.8 Al Rovira crossed for two tries for the Swanbourne side, while John Ogilvie, Jackson Webster, Michael Pollastri, Hugh Norcross, and Tevita Sifa all crossed for one each in the 32-point victory.
In the weekend’s other result, Palmyra overcame Joondalup 23-13.
Soaks will run out at Allen Park again next week against Wanneroo, Cottesloe will host Palmyra at Harvey Field, Nedlands will face Kalamunda at The Foreshore and UWA will look to upset the undefeated Wests Scarborough at McGillivray Oval.
