Report in case of Coles ‘bluff’

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

SUBIACO Councillors had hoped it was all a “bluff” when Coles announced last year that its supermarket would be moved from Barker Road to the Station Street Markets development.

In November, councillors requested that the chief executive prepare a report investigating options for consolidating the City of Subiaco’s and Coles’s land at the Park Street carpark.

That report was presented to a committee meeting last week.

Cr Lee Hemsley said the reason for the report was “in case the Station Street Market move had been a bluff”.

“As it turns out, this has not eventuated,” Cr Hemsley said.

“However, having all this information in one place is useful.”

A staff recommendation that the City approach Coles about its intentions for its Barker Street location and Park Street carpark lapsed for want of a seconder.

Council instead approved Cr Hemsley’s motion to “note the carpark consolidation review”, with the amendment that further options “would not be pursued at this time”.
