Sebastian rides for wheelchairs

SCOTCH College student Sebastian Evans was hoping to raise $2000 for the Wheelchairs for Kids charity – but he’s now at almost $4000.

As part of his Year 10 personal project, Sebastian rode 100km from Mosman Park to Wangara on May 22.

Sebastian said he wanted to support the charity and his granddad, who is the volunteer chief executive. “I am very proud of my granddad and to be supporting such a worthy cause,” he said.

“The wheelchairs are given to impoverished children in developing countries who otherwise may not have the opportunity for mobility.

“Receiving a wheelchair means they are able to participate in their community and go to school – simple things we take for granted that they would not have been able to do without a wheelchair.”

Sebastian said his new goal was to raise enough money to enable the charity to build 30 rough-terrain wheelchairs.

He said each wheelchair cost $150 to make.
