AZURE Medical in Cottesloe is using new technology to treat conditions that previously needed surgery.

Medical advances have now made available treatments for conditions such as snoring and bladder incontinence, which in suitable cases can avoid the need for surgery or medications.

Azure Medical owner and principal GP Dr Richard Newton said the clinic’s laser treatment for snoring uses a laser beam which heats tissue rather than cuts.

“This heating process causes contraction of collagen fibres, giving the tissues around the back of the throat more support, strength and structure and preventing the airway from collapsing and vibrating at night,” he said.

“Also, because the airway is not blocked off, the cause of sleep apnoea, some patients are then able to discontinue using splints or CPAP machines.”

Dr Newton said laser snoring treatment was safe, but would only recommend it after a thorough discussion and consultation.

He has extensive experience of working in a range of medical capacities throughout his 24 years as a doctor, in both regional areas and the city.

Azure Medical offers a wide range of treatments including DEXA body composition scans, an in-house dietician and a consultant psychiatrist.
