Working group to examine options
THE City of Nedlands has established a formal working group concerning the proposed SAS Campbell Barracks’ Seaward Village redevelopment in Swanbourne.
Councillor Nikola Horley moved the elected member’s motion at a council meeting last week.
“This is a difficult issue and the City has effectively been cut out of the process,” Cr Horley said.
“Meetings are taking place right now. This is urgent.
The working group will include coastal ward councillors Kerry Smyth and Leo McManus, Mayor Max Hipkins, planning and development director Peter Mickleson and two representatives from the Friends of Allen Park Bushland.
Cr Toni James said the group should be informal.
“This will take a lot of time and effort away from our new Town Planning Scheme. I think it is unreasonable,” Cr James aid.
Cr Kerry Smyth said the community was looking to council to show leadership and that they were not turning their back on the issue.
“It is about doing whatever needs to be done,” Cr Smyth said.
“This shows we as a council are involved and care what our community cares about.”
