Global Games bring stu­dents to­gether

NINE Univer­sity of WA stu­dents will rep­re­sent Aus­tralia at the 28th Sum­mer World Univer­sity Games in Gwangju, Korea in July.

The World Univer­sity Games, known as Univer­si­ade, are a sport­ing and cul­tural fes­ti­val staged ev­ery two years in both sum­mer and win­ter.

The Sum­mer Univer­si­ade is the only mul­tisport event in the world that con­nects stu­dents at aca­demic and ath­letic lev­els.

More than 100 tele­vi­sion chan­nels broad­cast the games, which in­clude 10 com­pul­sory sports and up to three op­tional sports.

The UWA team com­pet­ing at the games from July 3 to 14 in­cludes El­liot Clut­ter­buck, Tori Leon­hard, Zak Leon­hard, Kai Png, Holly Bar­ratt, Ni­cholas Brown, Lil­ian Hedges, An­drew Ford and Lach­lan Pethick.
