There is no Plan B for the Earth

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Western Opinion - Brad Capes, Coolbellup.

ENDLESS growth: this is the mantra of most governments and businesses. Those who question this are castigated.

Yet the premise of endless growth on a finite planet is actually absurd and impossible.

Consider that 60 per cent of ecosystem services are degraded. We have exceeded three planetary limits (extinction, climate, nitrate pollution).

Extinction is at least 1000 fold above the normal levels in the fossil record and huge amounts of the world’s large fish stock destroyed, including much of the cod and bluefin tuna populations.

This is the age of peak everything – oil, soil, wheat, water and so forth.

The evidence is overwhelming: unlimited growth is neither possible nor desired.

Wake up people… there is no Plan
