Western Knights secure long-term lease
THE Western Knights Soccer Club has secured a three-year lease with options until 2035 at their Nash Field, Mosman Park clubhouse from Mosman Park Council.
“The Town of Mosman Park has produced a lease that could result in the club being here for another 20 years,” club secretary Andrew Zuvela said.
At last month’s meeting, councillors agreed on the lease that required chief executive Kevin Poynton to negotiate with the club for the past year.
A current lease expired on June 30 and negotiations on a new agreement reflected several years of residents’ and councillors concerns about the previous cost to the council of maintaining the clubrooms, whether it would have to pay for a rebuild, noise and parking from games and whether the club should move to another location.
Mr Zuvela said club members, including 300 junior players from Mosman Park schools, had been part of the community for 15 years, and club leaders were “comfortable with the council’s lease offer of three years, with additional sevenyear and 10-year options.
The club will now use its lease to secure Department of Sport and Recreation grants to contribute to a $1.3 million upgrade of its facilities and it will be responsible for cleaning graffiti, painting the clubhouse and maintaining fences.
