Di­a­betes cen­tre a big step for­ward

THE Telethon Ju­ve­nile Di­a­betes Cen­tre was of­fi­cially opened this month, mark­ing a sig­nif­i­cant step for­ward in Type 1 treat­ment for West Aus­tralians.

The Os­borne Park fa­cil­ity will pro­vide peer and psy­choso­cial sup­port, in­for­ma­tion and ed­u­ca­tion, as well as op­por­tu­ni­ties for the Type 1 com­mu­nity to con­nect.

Cen­tre gen­eral man­ager Re­becca John­son said the open­ing was a suc­cess.

“It was a won­der­ful cel­e­bra­tion and a op­por­tu­nity to par­tic­u­larly thank our ma­jor sup­port­ers the WA State Gov­ern­ment, Telethon and Lot­tery­west,” Ms John­son said.

“We of­fer work­shops, camps, com­mu­nity fo­rums and a range of fun so­cial and ed­u­ca­tional events de­signed to break down the iso­la­tion Type 1 can im­pose.”

The cen­tre will in­clude a cafe-style kitchen for cook­ing classes, a chil­dren’s play area and six ap­pointed clinic rooms.
