Shaun’s beard challenge

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Health -

GROWING a beard is such a simple act when you think of all the challenges people with motor neurone disease (MND) face every single day, says Wembley resident Shaun Kay.

Mr Kay is hoping to raise $10,000 for MND Association of WA by taking part in the third annual Get on Beard challenge from June 1 to August 30.

“I’ve never had a beard in my life,” he said. “It’s quite a powerful feeling knowing that you’re raising awareness for a good cause by not being afraid to put down the razor.”

Mr Kay was inspired to sign up for the fundraiser after his great-uncle died from MND.

“Coming from a larger rural family, it was difficult to comprehend how my great uncle suffered and how his family managed to support him,” he said.

Get on Beard founder and fellow Wembley resident Mat Aitchison said Get on Beard was going from strength to strength.

“We don’t ask people to give a lot, we aim to get a lot of people to give a little, and in the end it all adds up and can make a huge difference to others’ lives,” he said.
