Juniors on world stage
DAMIAN Fyfe (Stirling) and Tamsin Cook (Carine) will represent Australia at next month’s Junior World Swimming Championships in Singapore.
Both swimmers, who train at the WA Institute of Sport, will compete in multiple individual and relay events at the August championships.
Cook won three gold medals at the Australian Age Swimming Championships in April, while Fyfe won two silvers and a bronze at the same meet.
Cook (16) said she was honoured to represent Australia and looked forward to the team-bonding that international events facilitated.
“Although swimming is an individual sport, there is a massive team element to it when you go to events such as this one,” Cook said.
“I think we have a really good team atmosphere and it's going to be great to watch and support the other Australian swimmers.”
Fyfe (18) said he hoped to set several personal bests at the event and push for a spot in the senior national team in the future.
“It was a great reward for a year’s hard work, I was honoured to be selected for the 2015 team,” Fyfe said.
The Australian team will fly to Singapore on August 19, before the competition begins on August 25.
