Leonard named a Legend
EIGHT West Australian footballers were inducted in to the WA Football Hall of Fame at the State Reception Centre last Wednesday night.
John James Leonard, who was inducted in to the Hall of Fame in 2004, also became the 16th inductee elevated to Legend status alongside Haydn Bunton Junior, Barry Cable, George Doig, Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer, Stan ‘Pops’ Heal, Denis Marshall, Phil Matson, Merv McIntosh, Steve Marsh, George Moloney, Graham Moss, Jack Sheedy, John Todd, WJ ‘Nipper’ Truscott and Bill Walker.
Leonard played 183 games; 146 for Subiaco Football Club, 12 with South Melbourne and represented WA 25 times.
He won a premiership with Subiaco in 1924 and five as a coach for West Perth and Claremont between 1934 and 1940.
