Teacher goes to School
LISA Adam has been told by her students she was typecast for her latest role in Australian Performing Arts Network’s (APAN) August production of High School Musical.
The APAN head of acting will play firm but fair drama teacher Mrs Darbus, who is extremely passionate about theatre and her students.
She will be joined on stage in the show, based on the Disney Channel original movie, by fellow WAAPA graduate John O’Hara with students from APAN Academy and members of APAN.
“All cast members had to go through extensive auditions to be involved in the show, so the calibre of talent is very high,” Adam said.
“It’s an invaluable opportunity and I hope the young cast absorb every moment of this production for the wonderful experience it will be.
“As for the audience, I hope they simply have a great time. It’s a fantastic show for the whole family with great catchy music and wonderful production numbers.”
Adam grew up in Perth before moving to Sydney after graduating from WAAPA.
Adam returned home in 2013 for her role in Jersey Boys as Mary Delgado and began teaching at APAN in early 2014.
“I have known Marina Del Basso (APAN chief executive) since I was about 14 years old when I was a student at her dancing school Del Basso Dance Academy,” Adam said.
“We’ve kept in touch over the years and when she found out I was moving back to Perth she called me and offered me the position. I was keen to get back into teaching here.
“I was a teacher while studying at WAAPA and I love what APAN offers and all that Marina does for the arts in Perth, so I jumped at the chance to be involved.”
