Rac­ing to the fin­ish in Avon De­scent

THE an­nual 124-kilo­me­tre two day Avon De­scent is over for another year, with power­boat M2 Rac­ing Team tak­ing out the 43rd white wa­ter clas­sic.

Kayaker Bren­dan Rice won the solo event, the first of his ca­reer, with fel­low South African-born Matthew Dean com­ing in sec­ond.

Triple kayak team Un­bro­ken took line hon­ours at the Bayswa­ter fin­ish in 8:49:01, about 20 min­utes ahead of the solo kayak­ers.

About 400 par­tic­i­pants took part, in­clud­ing 202 pad­dle craft and 53 power­boats set­ting out from Northam on Satur­day morn­ing, with 35 en­try crafts with­draw­ing over the two days.
