NEDLANDS, WESTS SCARBOROUGH
NEDLANDS will play Wests Scarborough in the 2015 Premier Grade grand final, following the former’s 4123 semi-final win over Cottesloe at the Foreshore last Saturday.
A two-try effort by fullback Dylan Loveridge helped Nedlands return from a 5-16 half-time deficit.
The minor premiers bounced back in the second half, and after trailing 23-12 in the 45th minute, put on three unanswered tries to stamp their victory, putting the minor premiers one step closer to a premiership season.
Cottesloe scrumhalf Charl Nieuwenhuis opened the scoring with two early penalties before Neddies responded through a Ben Titiko try in the right hand corner to trail by one point.
The Gulls added another Nieuwenhuis penalty before they extended their lead through an Antini Brown try with Nieuwenhuis’ conversion giving his side a 16-5 half-time advantage.
The second half saw Nedlands come out firing with prop Joseph Richie scoring his third try in two weeks with the Juan Pretorius conversion narrowing the home side’s deficit to 16-12.
Cottesloe responded when Tobias Hoskins broke through the Nedlands defence to put his side up 23-12. The Neddies comeback clicked into gear when Anuru Rangi powered through the last man in the defence before Loveridge crossed for his two tries in succession to extend the lead to 29-23.
Nedlands continued to make a statement to the visiting side, with Pretorius continuing his strong contribution to the match by scoring a try in the corner and flyhalf Jesse Toto diving over the top of a pack in the 80th minute to send Neddies to the Premier Grade decider on the back of a 41-23 win.
The grand final will be played this Sunday at McGillivray Oval.
