Bitten by the music bug

NAOMI Robinson says hearing her band’s song played on the radio for the first time was “pretty strange.”

The Presbyterian Ladies’ College Year 12 student, together with Churchlands Senior High School Year 12 student Conor Barton, created their band Mosquito Coast when they were both just 14 years old.

Last week, they were announced as a finalist in the Triple J Unearthed High competition.

“I really like Harrison Ford and especially the film Mosquito Coast by Aussie director Peter Weir,” Naomi said. “We were bouncing back ideas about band names and then we landed on Mosquito Coast and it kind of just stuck with us.”

Naomi said while they still trying to find their sound, they would keep making more music.

“We love music so I think we will always be playing,” she said.

The winner of Unearthed High will be announced on Thursday, August 20.
