Western Suburbs Weekly - - Fashion - with Desmond Eddy

BIRD on a Wire had a successful 2014 with runways at Urban Couture and a RAW showcase. The fashion label began this year with a bang, releasing first commercial collection Flourish and opening emerging WA designer pop-up shop Popsicle.

Designer Charissa Schlink has now rebranded Bird on a Wire, creating the new entity Curious Birdy but retaining the heart and soul of the label’s integrity and passion.

Featuring fun and quirky fashion pieces, Curious Birdy brings the beauty out in everyday life and Schlink refers to the label as her “girly alter ego”.

With inspiration from the ordinary, she has created unique prints that form the foundation of each collection.

“Every detail is important in each piece, with texture and trims to bring the garments to life,” Schlink said.

“It is all about creating something extraordinary and exciting.”

Schlink graduated from Polytechnic West in 2013, already having the experience of working with Australian labels such as Little Gracie, Dyspnea and Lover.

She was recently photographed for Restyle Class of 2015 for Telstra Perth Fashion Festival and will feature in the festival’s WA Designer Runway #2 alongside 12 of WA’s brilliant emerging designers.

WA Designer Runway #2 is at Fashion Paramount Riverside Forecourt, Perth Concert Hall at 7pm on Saturday, September 19.

Curious Birdy is stocked at Common Ground and Merge.
