Stepping up for youth
WEST Coast Fever netballer Courtney Bruce is running 12km in this year’s City to Surf to raise funds for Youth Focus’ free mental health services.
A Youth Focus ambassador since 2014, Bruce says raising awareness about mental health is an issue close to her heart.
“I'm passionate about reducing the stigma that stops so many people getting the help they need,” the Scarborough resident said.
Youth Focus provides free mental health services in their effort to stop youth suicide, the leading cause of death for Australians under the age of 25.
Youth Focus chief executive Jenny Allen said she was proud of Bruce’s efforts to raise awareness and funds for the organisation.
“She’s an outstanding role model for young Western Australians,” Ms Allen said.
“As less than 20 per cent of our annual income comes from the Government, we rely heavily on corporate support and committed individuals like Court- ney.”
Bruce said she was excited to put her elite fitness to the test for a good cause.
“The world can be a dark, scary and lonely place but Youth Focus is working hard to help young people who are struggling to see light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.
