Road clo­sure de­ci­sion de­ferred

NED­LANDS Coun­cil de­ferred the con­tro­ver­sial road clo­sure of Nid­jalla Loop at the in­ter­sec­tion of Al­fred Road in Swan­bourne dur­ing a coun­cil meet­ing in July.

Coun­cil­lors de­layed the clo­sure, pend­ing a re­port from staff on fur­ther traf­fic en­gi­neer­ing ad­vice from City of Ned­lands con­sul­tants and fol­low­ing li­ai­son with the res­i­dents’ traf­fic en­gi­neer­ing con­sul­tants. City staff will set out fur­ther op­tions to ease the im­pact of through traf­fic in the Swan­bourne High School sub­di­vi­sion.

Mayor Max Hip­kins said that, fol­low­ing the res­i­dents group em­ploy­ing their own traf­fic con­sul­tant, coun­cil de­cided to al­lo­cate a fur­ther $20,000 bud­get to the in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

Won­gin Way res­i­dent Alex Kailis said the res­i­dents’ Tran­sgroup re­port iden­ti­fied that traf­fic would be di­verted to Serve­tus Street or Devon Road if Nid­jalla Loop was closed.
