Hundreds for cancer climb

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

HUNDREDS will sweat it out up 1042 steps in the Climb for a Smile this Sunday.

Katie Stone said her daily walks on the beach prepared her for the 50-storey climb up the former Bankwest building on St Georges Terrace.

“I do 3000 steps every morning so I think I’ll be fine,” she said.

Ms Stone said she was passionate about charities, particularly those that supported cancer patients and families.

“Cancer Care WA is tremendous with their support and I’ve had family members with cancer so I’ve got the irons in the fire for regional cancer support services,” she said. She hopes to raise $10,000 this year. “I’m personally committed to it as I’m very aware of how badly funded the regional areas are in terms of cancer support.”

Rotary of Crawley (ROC) member Rob Bunning said ROC managed the event after Kenwick Rotary had run it for four years.

“The event has raised $300,000 in total since it started five years ago,” he said.

“We’re expecting 250-300 participants but we’d love more, so people can register up until Friday night.”

Money raised will support Teen Challenge, Interplast, Rotary for Melanoma Research and End Polio. Donate at www. myforasmile.
