MUSICIAN Joel Barker is doing away with a headline act for his new music concept being launched at The Odd Fellow this Saturday night.

Instead, there will be two rotating stages and eight solo artists who will play one song at a time between stages, giving them an opportunity to play about five songs each.

Barker, who has co-curated the 1x1x1 (one song, one musician, one band) concept with Ben Wilson, said the aim was to get musicians in front of new audiences.

“We’re maximising exposure and trying to create a community within the music scene,” he said.

“Up-and-comers also get exposure to established musicians.”

The inaugural line up includes Barker, Wilson, Jeff Strong, and Lucas Jones from the band These Winter Nights.A variety of music genres, from country to folk rock, will be covered.

Barker, an established musician who is writing songs for a new album, said the venue would also benefit because people would be there from the start, not just when a headline act came on.
