‘Grande’ Italian interest spurs festival
WINE, pasta and all things Italian will be celebrated as part of the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Perth’s Italian Wine and Food Festival (IWFF) on Sunday.
The inaugural one-day event is aiming to create a new generation of Italian wine and food lovers through education, experience and connection.
Secretary general Marco Mari said there would be a range of activities for foodies including wine tasting, wine making and cooking demonstrations from chefs such as Josh Catalano, Joel Valvasori and Maurizio Di Ciano.
“IWFF is a platform for all Perth foodies and wine lovers,” Mr Mari said.
“It’s a platform for the industry where a sommelier or wine buyer can meet the unique Italian wine makers and distributors.
“And a platform where everyone can taste and learn about Italian wines, amari and digestives.
“Guests can also join us at the Aperol garden for a refreshing spritz, grab an authentic gelato from Chicho Gelato or keep up with the several tasteful dishes prepared by our chefs at the live cooking stations; it is an experience not to be missed.”
Mr Macri said the idea to hold the event came from the growing interest of Australians for Italian quality wines and the increasing number of Italian wine and food festivals taking place interstate.
“There is no reason for the west to get left behind,” he said.
“The most striking thing about Italian food is its simplicity.
“People think that the Italian cuisine is within the best in the world.
“We love to think that too, but we also recognise how every cuisine is special and unique in its own way.”
The festival runs from 11am to 9pm at the Perth Town Hall, with tickets available at www.italianwinefood.com.au.
