FINALS TIME

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Drive Way -

Since winning the 2006 flag, West Coast has featured in just three AFL finals series. 2007: West Coast suffered a shattering qualifying final loss to Port Adelaide in Adelaide by just three points. The must-win semi-final against Collingwood at Subiaco Oval went into extra-time when the scores were tied at 10.12 (72) at the final siren, but the Pies eventually ran out 19-point winners. 2011: In the first week of finals, West Coast made a strong showing against premiership favourites Collingwood at the MCG but were defeated by 20 points. The Eagles hosted and beat Carlton the following week by just three points to earn a preliminary final bout against Geelong. The young team struggled against the eventual 2011 premiers, bowing out with a 48-point loss. 2012: West Coast steamrolled North Melbourne by 96 points in a red-hot elimination final at home, celebrating Dean Cox’s 250th game along the way. In the second week of finals Collingwood proved too strong, with the 13-point defeat at the MCG proving to be the last time a West Coast team would play in a final... until this week.
