AUSTRALIA finished 17th out of 27 countries at its first Comen Cup/Mediterranean Cup appearance in Italy recently.

The eight synchronised swimmers aged 13 to 15 were from the West Coast Splash club.

Coach Briana Preiss said the competition gathered the best synchronised swimmers in that age group from around the world.

Preiss, of Mosman Park, said the international experience would help prepare the girls for national and even Olympic competitions in the future.

“It was a learning experience and they did better than what we and they expected,” she said.

“We were watching and learning from the other countries to see how everyone does it and how we can modify our training.”
