Photo finish for festival

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Fashion - Desmond Eddy

THE Perth Fashion Festival will finish on great fanfare at Ascot Racecourse on Sunday, September 20, with Wheels and Dollbaby, Ae’lkemi and Steph Audino.

Ae’lkemi and Steph Audino will feature first at 7pm in a combined capsule runway show with an elegant extravaganza.

Designer Alvin Fernandez from Ae’lkemi will showcase his new collection Queens of the Frontier, influenced by both Hieronymus Bosch's painting Garden of Earthly Delights and the iconic 1983 film Scarface.

The decadent palette of marsala, nude, black and gold hints at the light versus dark, good versus evil religious undertones of Bosch's masterpiece, while the slinky ’70s fabric of jerseys, sequins and hand-beaded lace pays tribute to Scarface’s inimitable Ms Hancock.

Audino, who this time last year was at New York Fashion Week, is back home with her romantic tones and beautiful hemlines to suit any Cannes Film Festival or Academy Awards red carpet.

Melanie Greensmith will launch her spring summer 2016 collection at 9.30pm with international burlesque star, designer and model Dita Von Teese on the runway wearing the labels signature 1930s style of sex and glamour.

Floral, gold tassels and oriental inspirations are set to feature heavily on the printed satin cocktail hour pieces, knitwear and catsuits.
