Queenslea Drive deferral
CLAREMONT councillors deferred a decision on whether to build a bike lane on Queenslea Drive at a meeting last week.
The council estimated the proposed lanes between Christ Church Grammar School and Victoria Avenue would cost $165,000.
Voting against the motion, Cr Chris Mews said there was no need for the lanes and ratepayers’ money would be better spent elsewhere.
“If drivers swing out around cyclists it’s creating danger that isn't there now,” Cr Mews said.
“I live nearby and most cyclists are early risers who ride before they go to work and they’re usually off the road by 7am.”
