Thinking caps on for greener future

NEDLANDS’ big thinkers were awarded cash prizes in the City of Nedlands My Great Idea competition last month.

Sustainable Nedlands Committee chairman Nigel Share said the winning entries demonstrated excellence in innovation, creativity and practical solutions to environmental concerns.

Mayor Max Hipkins presented certificates and $700 prizes to Joycelyn Ma, Daniel Rojas and Rocio Uculmana for their study on public transport, walking and cycling and Carolyn Groves for her sustainable living submission, My Californian Bungalow.

Six entries won commendations and received a certificate and $100.

“I am pleased to see the competition has encouraged residents to think about innovative and progressive ideas for the City’s future, including new technology, and that has been reflected in the responses the committee has received,” chief executive Greg Trevaskis said.

The Sustainable Nedlands Committee will investigate implementing many of the winning ideas.

All entries can be viewed at the City’s administration building.
